You are a sysadmin, and for your company system you chose to use HP Server, and your proud of it. First time installation should be easy because HP SmartStart CD is accompanying you, guiding you installing the OS for your choice (Windows, Novel, Suse, Redhat, etc)

After running several years without complain, suddenly the server need to rebuild due to corrupt, or something else. But alas, you didn’t find the smartstart CD. It was several years ago, how can I remember where to put it? Ah it’s was there, but alas again, the CD was stretch. And now you hoping you can turn back in time, to get the correct CD.

But dont be afraid, my dear colleagues, HP archives all SmartStart CD version, all you need to is download the right version for your server and burn it into cdrom. Here it is the link:

Remove Yahoo Messenger Ads

Do you use Yahoo Messenger? if so sometimes the ads a little bit bothering..?? if not then it takes up space to display your friends and it also consume a bandwidth (especially bothering home user with dial-up). If you want to chat comfortly using YM 8 or 9 but dont want to displaying the ads and also dont want to use GAIM then use this steps:

- Copy paste below script on notepad.
- Save as .bat file (i.e. noYMads.bat)
- Run it (double-click on the file)

Update: 24 Dec 2008
Yahoo release new Messenger and the ads can’t be removed using the above tricks. You should patch YM in order to remove the ads.

1) Make sure you are logged in with Administrator privileges
2) Make sure that the YM_Patch.bat and YMPatch.bin files are in the same location
3) Run the YM_Patch.bat batch file

Note:
This is the preliminary version. It performs minimal error
handling, etc. It only supports versions 9.0.0.2018 and
9.0.0.2034. It does not remove ads in chat rooms and webcam.
In the near future, I will upgrade this to a more elegant
patch program that supports all versions of Messenger.

Summary of 6 Must Have Replacement Tools when Fixing a Computer Infected by Virus

If your PC infected by a good and powerfull virus/trojan/malware, it may disable access to Task Manager, Regedit, MSConfig, etc and unable to run several native Windows programs to clean it up. So in addition to your favorits anti virus softwares, here are list of utilities that you should have

ProceXP a Task Manager replacement, no need to install just extract it and requires to run on Normal mode.
RegAlyzer a RegEdit replacement, requires to install, can be executed on SafeMode. By accessing to Registry you can enable again Task Manager, MSConfig, access to RegEdit and others windows option, tweak and settings by editing, adding and removing Registry items. (will not explained here). WARNING: Use it with extra caution. You do not want to broke you computer even more.
GS a Command Prompt replacement, no need to install just run it
Run Dialog Box Replacement, just incase the virus disable the Run dialog box.
Autoruns, a System Configuration utility (msconfig) alternative with many more options.
FreeCommander, a File Manager (Explorer) replacement. Usually virus disable options to view hidden/system files. Disable you to search infected files using Search menu. But this utility reveal them
PCMAV, PCMedia Antivirus is an excellent Indonesia Antivirus, just incase your PC infected by Local (Indonesian) virus which the ‘cure’ not yet available by all famous AV since they all products of foreigns.

Visit to Casablanca branch

Wednesday, After long time I never visit this branch, Yesterday I had a chance to visit and see what changes.
Visiting to Casablanca office itself is not something I planned but rather incidential one. The licensor propitary device was broken after electricity black out. I was once who responsible for installing and maintain it. But after some jobs changes at the office, I handed over the responsibility to my colleague and luckily until yesterday the device works just fine.
What I can think of when the device failed to boot up properly after black out are broken power supply, fried motherboard and/or CPU, or corrupted OS since its not properly shutdown and perhaps harddisk inaccessible. Well for whatever happen I hope it just broken power supply or corrupted OS. Since those two are the easiest ones to solved.

Man, its late at 7pm where do you get the peripheral. The licensor itself doesnt gave me spare device for backup.

And yes, after came at Casablanca office along with my friends, we assume it just power supply failure. Fiuh… I am so glad, after changing power supply and make sure it works as it should, we have chat with supervisors and seniors at Casablanca office with a cup of tea (and smoke for those..) Sure there are a lot changes. The building itself changes after renovation 2 years ago. So nostalgic.

PS: the device called Starbase. It provide connection for Supertracker then uploading its data to upstream datacenter.
